Since -1905 in the heart of Tampa's Latin quarter, the COLUMBIA Restaurant has
majestically occupied one entire city block. The restaurant comprises nine dining
rooms and can seat 1500 people at one time.
The theme throughout the Columbia is Spanish, several of the rooms being decorated with
magnificent hand-painted tiles and oil paintings based on the famous Spanish literary
hero, "Don Quixote". Art treasures and antiques are found everywhere.
The praises of the Columbia have been carried by such well known international
publications as Saturday Evening Post, Esquire Magazine, Holiday Magazine (three
different times), McCalls Magazine and the National Geographic Magazine, just to name a
few.
The Columbia Restaurant is generally considered to be the largest Spanish Restaurant in
the world and many consider its food the finest anywhere.
From 1936 on the Columbia has provided music during the evening hours for those who enjoy
dancing and in February of 1963 the strolling violins were added to the already
well-filled entertainment calendar. This fine group composed of accordian, bass, violins
and singers was formed by Cesar Gonzmart who opereates the Columbia, and who, himself,
has a fine backgound as a violinist having been Concertmaster of the Havana Symphony
under the direction of the famed composer, the late Ernesto Lecuona. Mr. Gonzmart also was
leader of his own orchestra and has performed throughout the United States and Central and
South America.
In this album ANTILLA Records has combines several international favorities which feature
the Magic Violins for the first time on record bringing you the music and charm offered
nightly at your table at the Columbia Restaurant. Also featured are two of Spain's great
singers, Miguel Bodegas and Jose Forns who have joined the group to make it the outstanding
attraction which it has become. Solo accordionist is Mario De Leon.
We at ANTILLA Records believe you will find his new record album on of the most enjoyable
you have heard in a long time.
Consistent with our policy in producing authentic and only the best in Latin records, anywhere.
