ON THE BACK OF THE JACKET:

Renato Carosone

Blue Italian Skies
RECORED IN MILAN

Renato Carosone's music epitomizes the phrase.
For when it comes to serving up moden popular Italian songs, young Carosone and his musicians have no equal in Italy today.
More than any other recording artist, Carosone has a way with a good Italian song. He sold more records in 1957 than any other artist in Italy, and his combo—with Drummer Gege Di Giacomo sharing vocals with the leader—is equally entertaining as a Quartette, as a Sestetto or—rarely—when the good-natured Renato offers certain novelties, with his own scintillating solo piano featured, with only his Trio.
Carosone takes two or three hours to record one selection. The arrangements are conceived on the session, rehearsed, changed, tested, rehearsed again and—to the despair of the producer and engineers—finally recorded to Renato's satisfaction. Frequently, in the Pathe studios in Milan, Carosone and his sidemen record all night—as long as eight hours—and get only two numbers in the can.
The Carosone unit was organized in 1949 in Naples.
Progress was slow at first.
Then, in 1951, came the first hit records, broadcasts over the government radio network, and lucrative "in person" engagements at Rome's "Open Gate" nitery, the Caprice in Milan, the Casino del Lido at Venice and the exclusive, expensive Bussola between Forte dei Marmi and Viareggio.
In 1956, Capitol was privileged to introduce the Carosone talents to North America. His first high fidelity, long-playing album. Honeymoon in Rome, quickly was established as a best-seller and remains, even now, a briskly-moving package throughout U. S. A. and Canada.
Blue Italian Skies is Carosone's second album, presented herewith because of requests from record buyers and dealers alike. Carosone says it's his best yet.
"The songs are proven hits in Italy" he writes, "and we have just the right variety of moods and tempos. It's our best work on records since we started!"
So be it. Carosone once again has the stage!
