In recent years Jackie Gleason has amply demonstrated that he is a man of
wide-ranging creativity. It was about ten years ago that he turned to music, launching a new series of Capitol
recordings with resounding success and serving notice that his talents go beyond the comedy which brought him his
initial success.
On records, Gleason is in fact the nation's master of romantic mood music.
As with everything else, Gleason went into the record-making business in a big way. He knew the kind of music he
wanted to record — the heady four-in-the-morning stuff that sets nerves and emotions atingling—and he knew he
wanted it big and lush. He retained the best arrangers in New York and told them how he envisioned his music,
demonstrating melodies and phrases on a trumpet he plays with surprising self-taught facility.
When he and his arrangers were ready, Jackie hired an "acre of strings", went in to a recording studio and
conducted his musicians to an extremely successful repertoire of mood music which we are proud to present on this
album.
