Page Count: 192 ............ Dimensions:Hardcover 8 1/2" X 5 3/4"

Condition: Internally very very good. Spine very solid, head & foot are good and binding is intact with dust jacket that shows ware. This book shows no uses and is 'near new'.

From the book jacket flaps:
"We live," says Stanley Schuler, "surrounded by thousands of things. And sooner or later most of them break, rip, rust, chip, tear, stain, leak, or get out of whack in some other way.
"Something has to be done about them—and to find the somebody to do that something often turns out to be either agonizingly slow or astonishingly expensive. Or both...."
This guide is intended to tell you exactly what the title promises—how you yourself can mend, repair, or refurbish most of the things in and around your house that need to be fixed. You will find literally hundreds of articles and materials listed alphabetically in this handbook for all householders, handy or otherwise, male or female.
It will tell you how to paint an aluminum mail box or how to stop a leak in a hot water tank; how to patch a rip in your son's galoshes, and how to mend your wife's best umbrella; how to mix colored concrete, and what to do about that flickering fluorescent bulb; what glues to use with leather or plastic, and how to get a zipper back on the track; what will atop a leak in a swimming pool, and how you can replace the feathers on an arrow.
—And, for those who feel they need help with the basic techniques, there is a final section that will tell you the tricks you need to know about gluing, soldering, and painting; will show you how to make basic sewing stitches, hang things on walls, fasten metal or wood together, mix concrete, and even how to cut glass.
Next to the dictionary and your favorite cook book, HOW TO FIX ALMOST EVERYTHING will be the most used book in your home.

Stanley Schuler is one of those rare birds who is Jack and master of many trades. A former newspaper reporter, he has been building editor of House Beautiful and building consultant for General Electric. As a free-lance author, he has written some 200 fix-it articles for Reader's Digest, The Saturday Evening Post, The New York Times, Family Circle, Nation's Business, and dozens of other publications.
He turned mender, he says, "because I hated to throw things out just because they wouldn't work, and I disliked the idea of paying professional mechanics to make simple repairs that I knew I could handle myself." His biggest mending job has been the restoration of a 200-year-old house; his smallest (and most appreciated), fixing the snap fastener on his wife's belt.

THE AUTHOR: MORT SCHULTZ is one of America's most famous, prolific and authoritative writers on do-it-yourself subjects. He is well known for his monthly how-to column in Popular Mechanics, and is author of more than 10 books and literally hundreds of magazine articles on every phase of home repair.
It is Mr. Schultz' philosophy that, with few exceptions, the average homeowner can make his own repairs to his house, his car, his boat and his appliances.
Mr. Schultz has long specialized in mechanical subjects, particularly automobile and appliance repair. You'll find this book a fine example of his craft. He has the rare ability to write on technical subjects in an easy-to-read style. On those few occasions when he uses a technical phrase for clarity, he defines the term and tells you — as well as shows you — exactly what to look for.
Most malfunctions to appliances, he points out, are minor and can be corrected with tools you probably already have on hand. In some specific cases, the repair of a malfunction may require a new or specialized tool, one that you don't have; in such cases he tells you exactly where to find it and what to ask for.
Test instruments? Very few are required for most appliance repairs, and these, for the most part, are simple and inexpensive. In fact, Mr. Schultz tells you how to make some of the test instruments yourself! Regardless of brand, most appliances of the same type are quite similar. For example, all electric refrigerators and freezers work on the same basic principles. The same parts, even of different brands, usually resemble each other. The author clearly explains each principle; tells you how to identify the parts in question; how to pin down the malfunction; then how to repair it.
Mr. Schultz' photographs and drawings, keyed into the text, help lead you through each step in the repair process.
