Pickwick started as Pickwick Sales of New York (1957), with platters manufactured by Keel Manufacturing Corporation (K.M. Corporation) originally based in Freeport, Long Island, New York, part of the Pickwick empire. (I have not been able to find who Pickwick was at the time of start up - nor who Keel was
Pickwick was the owner of most of Eli Oberstein's (Record Corp. of America) masters from his labels like Allegro Elite, Concertone, Gramophone, Royale and Varsity, who had very old masters by artists who had been popular in the 1930s and 1940s. They (Pickwick) made use of these along with generic orchestral arrangements. They leaned heavily toward performances they owned, songs in the public domain, and songs written cheaply by their in-house staff. They had few artists who were not either studio musicians or groups, or artists were past their prime.
Pickwick became Pickwick International (about 1960-61).
Other labels were:
Design (1957 to the early 1970s), Stereo Spectrum (about 1959-60 to 1962)
Bravo Records (1957 to 1960)
Grand Prix Series Records (1962 to 1965) - used to reissue all the other records pressed by Pickwick on any of its labels.
Happy Time Records (1965 to 1968) for childrens records
International Award Records (1960) formly Bravo
Hurrah Records (1962) a division of the K.M. Corporation
Another name used was that of the Kimberly Record Corp., which use K.M. Corporation to press its platters and used the same address on its jackets.
